Last night, I went to my brother Ryan’s talent show at my old high school (he’s the one on the right). He was so good, I couldn’t be prouder.
The program stated that him and his friend were going to be performing a “TV show medley”. To which, I replied “Wtf is a TV show medley??” Instead of running up and asking him, I decided to be an adult and just wait for him to come on. Trust me, it was not what I was expecting.
Basically, they both had created a mashup of popular tv show theme songs from back when they were kids. Drake and Josh, Power Rangers, Spongebob, and they threw in a couple popular R&B songs, too. His friend played guitar and sang, while Ryan beatboxed. They had everyone clapping, cheering and singing along. It was really fun. Hands down, one of the best acts of the night, and I’m not just saying that because he’s my brother.
I’ve seen Ryan perform in talent shows before. Mostly for dancing, but I knew he’d been beatboxing for a while as well. It’s a little strange, seeing my baby brother perform on a stage I used to occupy for drama class nine years ago. It’s even stranger to think he’ll be graduating next year. As the older sister, I worry about how my little brothers will fair out in the real world. I’m slightly overprotective, but I’ve never really had to worry about Ryan. I think he turned out pretty ok, and I know he’ll do big things with his life. Really, I could not possibly be prouder.
