I think I’m going to start writing in a journal again. Something more personal, in a place where no one can see it.
It’s becoming increasingly unsatisfying having to “censor” my blog (I use the term “censor” loosely). My blog, as it stands, is fairly personal, but there are parts of my life that I purposely keep off the Internet. Mostly because it’s so public. I don’t feel comfortable going in-depth about a lot of things. As you can tell, a lot of my posts have hashtags such as “vague post is vague”, or “vague posts about vague things”. Which, after I type it, is very disheartening. There are things I want to get off my chest, but having it out there doesn’t seem feasible.
I don’t consider myself a private person. I’m very open about a lot of aspects of my life, but it’s different when hundreds, or even thousands, of strangers can read about who your dating or what you’re doing. And sometimes, it’s not even strangers. It’s simply people who you don’t want knowing about your day to day. Past relationships, people you simply don’t like, even some family members. Why does my second cousin in the Philippines need to know I was out drinking on a Tuesday night? Why does a girl I hated in middle school need to know about my work stresses? These are all things I take into consideration when I post to my blog. Maybe not those specific people, but in general. This is a big part of why I don’t have a Facebook. Those who matter already know, because they heard it from me, not from the Internet. But I digress.
I don’t blog for self-validation. Yeah, it’s cool when a post I make gets a bunch of notes. It puts a smile on my face, sure, but as a whole, everything is for me. To get the thoughts out of my mind and put them into perspective. But there are some things that the Internet doesn’t need to know about. Not even in a private post.
Like I said, I blog for me. This will just be another way for me to do that.
